Missy’s on the Marsh is a classic 1950s beach cottage completely restored in 2007 and filled with bright, cheerful beach colors and quirky local artwork. The rocking-chair screened porch is perfect for relaxing with a beverage or book and watching the setting sun; the big back deck on the edge of the marsh has a picnic table, grill and lots of comfortable seating to watch the herons forage in the tidal creek. The cottage is pet friendly with a fenced front yard. It’s an easy walk or bike ride to the 1st Street or 6th Street beaches.

Amenities

This cottage has three bedrooms and two full baths, a bright living room with lots of seating, a kids play area with games, puzzles, books and videos; a fully equipped family kitchen and laundry room with washer/dryer. You’ll have cable TV with DVD/VCR and a high-speed internet connection and Wi-Fi. Air conditioned with ceiling fans in every room, including the front screened porch.

Activities & Attractions

Tybee Island, located 18 miles east of Savannah, is a small barrier island with a wide, 3-mile long beach that’s backed by sea oat-covered sand dunes and is perfect for sunbathing, shelling, people-watching and playing in the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. The island’s south-end pier and pavilion is a splendid venue for strolling above the ocean sipping a beverage, fishing, or listening to the music of the live bands. Tybee is famous for its low-key recreation and relaxation, but there are plenty of family activities. You can climb to the top of the historic Tybee Island Lighthouse (dated 1773). Fort Pulaski offers guided tours and daily cannon firings. The Marine Science Center has lots of info and exhibits on the local wildlife, including the endangered sea turtles, which nest here in the summer and fall. You can rent bikes and ride along the surf, or take a jaunt out to Fort Pulaski along the new 6-mile riverfront bike path. Kayaks are available to paddle through the marshes. While Tybee is a resort complete with restaurants, bars with live music, art galleries and beach shops, it’s an atmosphere considerably more laid-back than that of glitzier, larger beach towns to the north and south. And if you want more action, historic Savannah’s just a short drive across the causeway.
